Our Next Meeting and Spring Cookout is Tuesday, April 15th at the St. Augustine Shrine Club, 250 1st St.  Our meetings are on the 3rd Tuesday of each month except when there are other functions during the month. The Shrine Club has a very nice facility overlooking Moultrie Creek.  They have adequate parking across from the building. Social is at 6:30, meeting at 7.30. The Board meetings are normally on the 4th Thursdays at the St Augustine Shrine Club Members are welcomed to the Board meeting.

The Spring Cookout is April 15th which will be the General Meeting for April. The food will be prepared by L&W Catering (Yum!!). Club members are asked to bring a desert. Let us know what you are bringing when you RSVP. Don't forget to RSVP at 904-827-1013 not later than April 8th.

 


E-mail Newsletter:  We are going to start e-mailing the newsletter very soon.  Each of you need to update or confirm your e-mail address where you want the newsletter sent.  You can do that at the meeting or by e-mailing a message to editor@acgfa.com with that information. We also need to know of those without a computer or e-mail access. E-mailing the newsletter will save the club up to $2,400 per year in printing and postage and that doesn’t count the  hours of folding, stapling, labeling and stamping the 170+ newsletters each month.

 

Program:  Last month’s program was a fishing trivia quiz conducted by Joe Noda and Liana Chapman.  After 10 questions and some spirited discussions there were several members with perfect scores and a drawing was held to determine the winner.  James Manucy won and collected the prize.   

 Snacks:  Thanks go to David and Liana Chapman who provided the Fried Chicken and great homemade Baked Beans with the trimmings. This month is the Spring Cookout.

 

Raffle: David Chapman & Rick Emert had a great raffle. rods & reels, knife set, life vests, etc.  I did not get a list of the winners. This month David & Rick will have another great raffle

Membership Drawing:  Ralph Wolfe (Shrine Club worker who just became a member tonight) won the $200 drawing.  It pays to attend the meetings and parties.  Be at the next meeting for the $100 drawingYou must be present to win!

 

Club Shirts, Etc.:   Wil & Teeka are handling the T-shirts sales.  They have some great colors now. Let them know what you want and they will try to get them for you.

 

Membership Information:  NOTICE: Membership year is June 1st thru May 31st.  Dues are $50.00 for a family and $30.00 for individual memberships. Guests are always welcome. It’s time everyone starts thinking about a theme for our membership party in June.  Some themes we’ve used in the past were:  Oldest ACGFA Shirt, Most Patriotic, Funniest Fishing Hat, Best Chef’s Apron, and others

 

Upcoming Tournaments and Events:  Ladies Tournament (April 1st thru 30th).  The Striking Fish Tournament is scheduled for 10 May (Rules enclosed.).  You may enter at the April meeting.  The Spring Kickoff Tournament ended March 31st.  Enclosed are the standings as of March 24th.  Final results and awards may be made at the April meeting

Help Wanted:   Kingfish Challenge (KFC), (July 11 thru 13).  If you are not fishing the tournament, please sign up to help.  This is the major fund raiser for the club.  An update will be given at the meeting.  In addition to the Kingfish Challenge, we need your help working two non-club Tournaments.  If you don’t fish these tournaments, this is an opportunity to help our club, see quality game fish, and have a great time!!!  We assist the Northeast Florida Marlin Association’s Bluewater Tournament (May 20th thru 24th) and the Kingbuster Classic (June 5th thru 7th) by providing help operating the Radio Base, Weigh Station, Fish Cleaning, and Boat Handling, etc.  In return, the tournaments help us financially. Fishing Information

Fishing Year Ends & Rule Changes:  This years 2007–2008 year-end tournaments close on April 30th and the new year starts May 1st.  Recommendations for any rules changes are due at the April meeting and will become effective May 1st. Synopsis of Changes recommended by the Board: Changes the Grouper category to 2 categories: Grouper, Black & Gag and Grouper (Other).  Changes Angler-of-the-Month scoring for “Released” Billfish & Tarpon.  Removes “Released” Billfish and Tarpon from Angler-of-the-Year and Boat-of-the-Year scoring.  Adds Grouper, Black & Gag and Grouper (Other) to Boat-of-the-Year scoring.  Increases the “Conservation Award” to three (3) places.

 

March Angler-of-the Month – Scott Shank.  There were 33 cards from 12 anglers entered this month.  Scott had 400 points with a 60 lb Black Drum (2nd place Mens and 2nd largest of the month), a 5.1 lb Sheepshead (2nd largest of the month), a 3.0 lb Pompey Drum (largest of the month), and a 4.3 lb Trout (2nd largest of the month). Great job Scott.  Cut-off was March 1st thru 31st.  Cards received after March 31st will count on next months April Angler-of-the-Month.  See enclosed list of all catches received.
